What to move.
And what to go and find.

Every room already has colours it cannot change — the floor, the walls, the timber. This is what those grounds will take: which pieces already on the property can be carried in, and where nothing here will do, what colour to go looking for.

26 combinations
11 rooms
7 buy targets
Every colour measured, none invented

Part one is about moving what exists. Pick a room and its ground is already decided for you. What is left is the choosing: a piece for the wall and a piece for the room. The strip across the top of each set reads left to right in that order, so you are looking at the finished room as one palette rather than as four separate swatches. Band widths are roughly how much of the room each colour accounts for — the ground is most of what you see.

Part two is for the shop floor. Some things this property needs do not exist here yet. Each target names a colour that is already in the building, the object it came off, and what to look for — material, scale, and what to walk away from. Nothing proposed anywhere in this document is impossible: equipment bolted into a rack, built-in shelving, poured counters and floors were measured for their colour and are never offered as things to move. Heavy pieces are only offered for the room they already stand in. Interior textiles are never sent outdoors.

Part One

Moving what is already here.

Part Two

What to go and find.

These are the gaps — things this property needs that it does not have. Each one names a colour already in the building and the object it came off, so there is something real to compare against in a shop. Match the family and the material; do not chase the number. Where a choice has to be made between a slightly-off colour in the right material and a perfect colour in the wrong one, take the material every time.

Outdoor shade — umbrella or canopy

hero
Grounds · EXT-SHADE-01

A burnt orange-red that already exists indoors, brought outside as the one strong colour against granite, concrete and timber.

Studio Bathroom Hallway Tapestry Burnt Orange
Compare against
Studio Bathroom Hallway Tapestry Burnt Orange
Entrance & Hallway
Why
The pool and deck read almost entirely as stone and wood, and they sit at the lightest average of anywhere on the property. Shade is the largest single piece of colour that will ever be added out here, and it will be in every wide shot of the grounds.
Colour
Burnt orange leaning red — warm, a little dusty, not a bright signal orange and not a cool crimson. If in doubt go one step more muted: it has to sit against grey granite without shouting, and a vivid version will be the only loud thing outdoors.
Material
Solution-dyed acrylic canopy fabric, matte. Avoid anything with a wet sheen or a plasticky face — it will flare under direct sun and read synthetic in frame.
Scale
Large. This is architectural-scale colour once it is up.
Sits against
Sits against granite, poured concrete and weathered timber decking, all of which are neutral-to-warm and none of which will fight it.
Avoid
Blue and teal of any kind. Bright white — it will blow out in sun and go cyan if it carries optical brighteners. Burgundy or wine, which read urban here. Anything with a high-contrast geometric print.
Where to look
New retail. This is one of the few targets where buying new is clearly right — outdoor fabric has to be UV-stable and second-hand canopies fail.
Lifespan
Permanent. It will be up every summer for years.

Deck and poolside seating

hero
Grounds · EXT-SEAT-01

Warm timber or timber-toned seating that reads as an extension of the deck rather than as furniture placed on it.

Wood Deck
Compare against
Wood Deck
Grounds
Why
There are exactly two movable pieces outdoors at present. Seating is what makes the grounds look inhabited instead of staged.
Colour
Mid warm brown with visible grain — the tone of the existing deck, or a shade darker. Weathered rather than freshly finished.
Material
Teak, cedar, oak or powder-coated metal in a matte warm neutral. Avoid glossy varnish, which will hot-spot in sun.
Scale
Furniture-scale, several pieces.
Sits against
Against the deck itself and the granite. Because both are warm, seating that is also warm will merge — so it needs to separate in lightness: go clearly lighter or clearly darker than the decking, not the same.
Avoid
Grey-washed or driftwood finishes, which are the cool-neutral cliché of outdoor furniture and will read corporate against this timber. White frames.
Where to look
New retail or vintage. Vintage teak is ideal and holds colour honestly.
Lifespan
Permanent.

The light counterweight — the biggest single gap

hero
Every room · ALL-LIGHT-01

Something genuinely pale, in quantity, in almost every room. The property has no light mass anywhere, and that is its one real structural weakness.

No photograph
Compare against
Kitchen Chair
Main Floor
Why
Every room on this property averages between a third and half of full lightness. The palest things measured anywhere are the lid of an electric piano and a drum shell — objects, not surfaces. Nothing large and light exists. In person that reads as warm and enclosing; on camera it reads as one continuous brown, and it is the single most likely way the footage disappoints.
Colour
Warm off-white, bone, oatmeal, undyed linen. Warm, never stark — a cool or optically brightened white will look corporate against this timber and will go cyan under any light carrying ultraviolet.
Material
Undyed or minimally dyed natural fibre — linen, cotton canvas, wool in its natural colour, unglazed ceramic, lime plaster. Anything sold as 'bright white' or 'optic white' is the wrong product.
Scale
Large where possible: throws, cushions in quantity, curtains, table linen, lampshades, ceramics. Small light objects will not move the needle.
Sits against
Everywhere. This is the one target that is not room-specific.
Avoid
Optical brighteners above all — they fluoresce and blow out. Pure white, grey-white, and anything with a blue-white cast.
Where to look
New retail is fine and probably easier; natural-fibre bedding and table linen suppliers are the obvious source.
Lifespan
Permanent, and the highest-leverage purchase on this list.

A floor piece for the studio entrance

supporting
Studio — Entrance & Hallway · STU-HALL-01

A runner or rug for the entrance and hallway, which currently holds exactly one movable object.

Spiral Stairs Wood Sample
Compare against
Spiral Stairs Wood Sample
Entrance & Hallway
Why
This is the first interior anyone sees on arrival at the studio, and it is almost entirely fixed surface — wall fabric, timber and stair. It has nothing underfoot.
Colour
Warm mid-brown to amber, a step darker than the spiral stair timber so the floor grounds the space rather than competing with the walls.
Material
Wool, flatweave or low pile. It has to take wet boots and cases.
Scale
Runner length. Narrow rather than wide — this is circulation space.
Sits against
Sits between the fabric-clad wall and the timber stair, both of which are already warm. Separate in lightness, not in hue.
Avoid
Anything with a Southwest or Navajo-derived motif. The building already holds woven wool in that idiom and it should be treated as part of the fabric of the place, not as a look to extend. Also avoid high-contrast geometrics, which will moiré on camera.
Where to look
Antique and second-hand. A worn wool runner is better here than a new one.
Lifespan
Permanent, and it will take a beating.

The one cool note — and it has to be bought

supporting
Wherever one blue is wanted · ALL-BLUE-01

Every blue on this property is on a piece of rack equipment bolted into a rack. If a cool accent is wanted anywhere, it does not exist as something that can be moved — it has to be acquired.

Instr - Baby Blue Wurly
Compare against
Instr - Baby Blue Wurly
Live Room
Why
Blue is the property's scarcest colour and the only one that reads as deliberate rather than inherited. Used once, in a small object, against all that warmth, it carries. Used twice it stops being an accent.
Colour
A soft, chalky, slightly greyed blue — the colour of the pale electric piano in the live room, not a saturated cobalt and not a navy. It should look faded rather than new.
Material
Painted wood, enamelled metal, glazed ceramic, or a matte woven textile. Not gloss plastic, which will read as the only synthetic thing in shot.
Scale
Small. One object per room at most, and not in every room.
Sits against
Best against timber and warm textiles, where it is the only cool thing in the frame.
Avoid
Saturated or primary blues. Navy, which reads nautical and formal. Any blue on a large surface — at scale it stops being an accent and starts fighting the building.
Where to look
Antique stores and prop houses. Old painted enamelware and mid-century ceramics are the natural source.
Lifespan
Permanent, and deliberately rare.

Anything at all for the cabin's exterior

supporting
Log Cabin — exterior · CAB-EXT-01

The cabin's outside has one measured surface and no movable object whatsoever. Nothing on the property can be carried out there.

Log Wood Wall Outdoor Sample
Compare against
Log Wood Wall Outdoor Sample
Exterior Surfaces
Why
It is the oldest and most photogenic elevation on the property and it is completely undressed.
Colour
Whatever goes here has to survive weather, so the honest answer is that colour is secondary to material. If a colour can be chosen, take the warm rust-red that recurs indoors — it is the property's earned accent and it will read against dark aged log.
Material
Weather-tolerant only: painted or enamelled metal, stoneware, treated timber, galvanised. No textiles, no paper, no unsealed wood.
Scale
Furniture-scale or smaller. A bench, a pair of chairs, a planter, lanterns.
Sits against
Against dark aged log, which is both very dark and very warm. Anything placed here must be clearly lighter or it will vanish.
Avoid
Anything that reads as new. This elevation's whole value is its age, and a crisp modern object beside it will look like a mistake.
Where to look
Antique, salvage and architectural reclaim.
Lifespan
Permanent, outdoors, year-round.

Warm soft goods, opportunistically

background
Lodge — main floor · LOD-SOFT-01

Blankets, cushions and throws in the browns and rust-reds already all over the building. Buy on sight when the material is right.

Pendleton Common Brown Blanket
Compare against
Pendleton Common Brown Blanket
Main Floor
Why
Background dressing. These fill frame, soften hard timber, and never need to be the thing anyone looks at.
Colour
Anything inside the existing warm range — brown, rust, amber, muted gold. Precision is not required here; belonging is.
Material
Wool above all. Heavy cotton and linen are acceptable. The test is the hand: it should feel substantial and natural, never slick.
Scale
Small to furniture-scale.
Sits against
Anywhere in the lodge or cabin.
Avoid
Synthetic fleece and hotel-style throws. New-looking dyes. Southwest or Navajo-derived motifs — buy solids and simple stripes instead.
Where to look
Antique stores, estate sales, online marketplaces. This is the category where volume matters more than precision.
Lifespan
Permanent, and replaceable.

26 combinations across 11 rooms, and 7 things to go and find. Every colour on this page is a measured reading off a real object. Nothing was sampled from a screen and nothing was invented to complete a set.

Printed colour is close but not exact. Deep saturated reds, very dark browns and high-chroma golds shift most on an office printer. Where a colour matters, work from the screen version or from the object itself.
